Get a step up on the competition with PowerSkate, a high-energy instructional power skating program geared to hockey and ringette players. This program focuses on balance, control and agility skills including components of power and speed. Skating skills, techniques and performance drills are taught in a progressive format by Skate Canada coaches certified through the NCCP to enhance the skating ability required in game situations.
Some of the top players in the NHL have trusted Skate Canada’s best-in-class programs to help them reach hockey’s biggest stage including Nathan MacKinnon, Matt Duchene, Mark Scheifele and Jeff Skinner.
Skaters may be any age and must have previous skating experience that equates to Stage 4 in CanSkate or higher. Adaptive skaters and sledge hockey skaters who have an identified skating level are welcome. All PowerSkate participants must have hockey skates, gloves, a stick, and helmet. Full equipment is optional.
Who, What, When, Where and How
Our PrePower & PowerSkate program runs during our fall school in September for skaters who want to get a jumpstart on their hockey season. Session are 45 minutes, twice a week and consist of a warm up, lesson time, development time and cool down. Skaters must be at a Stage 4 CanSkate level to join PowerSkate.
Where does my skater fit in?
Our PrePower program runs in conjunction with both the CanSkate and PowerSkate program. Starting at U7, players will start their session with CanSkate for 15 minutes then join the PowerSkate program for 30 minutes, this allows them to learn their basic skating skills while also hockey specific skating skills. It is still recommended for new skaters to start in CanSkate before joining PrePower.
